G’day folks! Today, I’m diving deep into a topic that’s at the core of everything we do: our values. You may have heard a lot of chatter about values before, but stick with me because we’re going to dig deep. Yep, this is another Walkerism, and today’s lesson is all about understanding your true values and how they shape your life.
Introduction: The Importance of Values
When someone asks, “Who are you?” you reveal your values. Phrases like “know yourself” or “be yourself” actually mean “be your values.” Most people don’t know their values and unknowingly live by someone else’s. This misalignment leads to frustration and unhappiness. When you live your values, your self-worth skyrockets, even if others might dislike you for it. Authenticity and leadership require you to not only live your values but to know them well enough that you can defend them.
What Are Values?
Values aren’t just buzzwords or abstract ideas; they are the real drivers behind your decisions, behaviours, and life direction. They shape your choices, define your priorities, and determine how you spend your time and energy. Most of us have never consciously identified our true values. We might think we know what they are, but until we examine our daily lives, we could be living by values that aren’t genuinely ours. And that’s where today’s session comes in.
Combining Values in Relationships
When we get into relationships, we create a home where values are merged. Often, this leads to compromise, and both partners might feel their values aren’t being met. This creates frustration. One way to address this issue is to allocate personal spaces within your home that reflect each person’s values. Create one room that’s yours and one that’s theirs, so each person has a space free from compromise. This simple move can significantly impact the quality of your relationship and your self-worth.
Reflecting Your Elemental Constitution
Your elemental constitution—be it earth, water, fire, air, or ether—affects the environment you create. It’s rare to pair up with someone of the same elemental constitution, so getting this right is crucial. This alignment will determine the quality of your relationship, self-worth, healing, leadership, and whether you thrive or not.
Questions to Unveil Your Values
- Personal Space: Look around your space. What do you keep close? Books, trophies, family photos, gadgets—these are clues to your value set. Your environment reflects what holds a place in your heart.
- Time Management: What do you always have time for, no matter how busy you are? Whether it’s a hobby, work, or family, how you spend your time reveals your true values. Check your calendar—it’s a window into what you really prioritise.
- Energy Expenditure: Notice where your energy goes. Activities that align with your values energise you, while others drain you. This alignment shows what’s truly important to you.
- Spending Habits: How do you spend your money? Whether it’s on learning, gadgets, charity, or nothing at all, your spending habits reflect your values. Every transaction you make speaks volumes about your priorities.
- Organisation and Discipline: Where does order show up in your life? Your organised spaces are flashing neon signs pointing to what you value most.
- Intrusive Thoughts: What do you think about most consistently? These thoughts signal your internal values, acting like a compass pointing to your true north.
- Visualisation and Realisation: What visions are you actively working towards? Values aren’t just wishes; they are what you’re willing to work hard to achieve.
- Topics of Conversation: What do you talk about most? Your fire-up topics reveal your top values. If you frequently discuss entrepreneurship, learning, or family, these are clear indicators of the values you hold dear.
- Inspiration: What stories, people, or experiences fill you with admiration? What inspires you reflects your values, showing what you strive for.
- Long-term Goals: What goals keep popping up year after year? Consistent goals tied to a core value point to what your highest priority is.
Conclusion: Living Authentically by Your Values
Take the time to figure out what’s true for you. Living by your true values is the key to a fulfilling life. Trying to live by someone else’s values is like wearing shoes that don’t fit—painful and unsustainable. If you’re struggling with this, that’s where I come in. I can help you clarify your values and build a life that’s aligned, powerful, and uniquely yours. So, keep questioning, keep exploring, and keep living your truth.
Until next time, this is Chris Walker. Stay true to yourself and have a great day. Cheers!
