Good morning, good afternoon, wherever you are. This is Chris with a very lovely, croaky, sexy voice. I’ve been out bike riding. It was 3.6 degrees centigrade, and everything was going fine until I stopped and had a cup of coffee with a client with whom I rode a bike. During that coffee, I froze to death. So, I’m out in the garden, admittedly not down the beach. I’m out in the back garden, out of the wind, defrosting. While defrosting, I’m clearing my throat again, back to normal. I have all the good gear, but there’s a certain temperature at a certain speed.
When I left home, I thought, “Oh man, I’ve got the best riding gear for this temperature. It’s no problem at all.” The gloves, the neck brace, the neck thingy, the hoodie, everything was great until I got up to speed. When I hit about 25-30 kilometres an hour, everything changed. The wind got through. Today, I will talk about something really cool that we all take for granted a little bit. For now, we’ve moved on from pain and pleasure and understand the definition of pain and how it works for people. What I want to talk about today is probably something that could shift your perspective, using nature’s law.
The Core Principle of Self-Leadership
So, let’s start and see where we get to. Qualities of a Great Leader
Let’s list the qualities of great leadership from the receiver’s point of view:
- Prioritise the well-being of others alongside company goals.
- Stand by your side during challenging times.
- Empower with trust and autonomy.
- Help others grow and provide a safe place to work.
- Foster a culture of collaboration and respect.
- Encourage continuous learning and personal growth.
- Show understanding and forgiveness when mistakes are made.
- Make sure your work and personal existence are important.
- Create opportunities for promotions and better jobs.
- Be there for others during tough times.
- Celebrate wins and reward efforts.
- Motivate others to reach beyond their limits.
Redirecting Leadership Qualities to Self
Now, let’s redirect those qualities to ourselves:
- Prioritise Your Own Well-Being: You can’t lead others effectively without caring for yourself. Balance your personal goals with your professional goals. This is why we have the seven areas of life and the Be Do Have in the Inner Wealth Coaching.
- Stand by Yourself During Challenging Times: Use self-talk on a daily basis to support yourself, barrack for yourself, and become your number one fan. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would treat a friend.
- Empower Yourself with Trust and Autonomy: Trust your instincts and give yourself the freedom to make decisions. This is important outside of work, especially in relationships where we might empower our partner and neglect our own autonomy.
- Help Yourself Grow and Create a Safe Space: Invest in your personal growth and create an environment where you can explore new ideas and learn from mistakes.
- Foster a Culture of Self-Respect: Treat yourself with respect. This starts with your environment—how you dress, eat, and care for your body. Self-respect also includes your thoughts and your power to change them, your exercise routine, and how you manage your values, vision, and self-talk.
- Encourage Continuous Learning and Personal Growth: Never stop learning about things that matter to you. Make sure your learning is relevant and not just a distraction.
- Show and Understand Forgiveness: Be generous and kind to yourself. Forgive yourself for past mistakes and understand that failure is part of growth.
- Acknowledge Your Own Importance: Recognise your own worth and celebrate your achievements. Don’t be afraid to honour and respect yourself for doing great.
- Create Opportunities for Personal Advancement: Be proactive in seeking opportunities to help you grow and advance in your life and career.
- Be there for Yourself. Treat yourself with love, kindness, and generosity. Self-care is essential for resilience.
- Celebrate Your Wins: At the end of each day, follow the process of the daily emotional shower. Celebrate your wins, reflect on what you could have done better, and complete your day on a high note.
- Motivate Yourself to Reach Beyond Your Limits: This can be challenging but crucial. Help yourself see where you’re blocked and work on discarding those blockages. Engage in activities like Vision Quests to be honest with yourself and envision what’s possible.
