You’re sitting alone and it’s minus 5 degrees C. but your down jacket is windproof and cozy. Maybe your feet are a little chilly, so you kick them against a rock, which is standard Sherpa tradition for improving circulation… not that they have much trouble at this altitude.
The vista is perfection. The Himalayas… vast, unending, unforgiving and yet, it’s home to many of us.
Yes, it doesn’t get much better than this: no car, no phone, no TV, no booze, no money… just a hill, a view and cold wind. Such a life reveals the missing elements of the other. Do we really need to go back?
